![]() This new line from Elac has both a classic yet. Note, I'm primarily an audiophile type, with HT being secondary. Elac Debut Reference DFR52 Speakers are the floorstanding speakers in the Debut reference range. Features 3-Way Speaker Design: The Elac Uni-Fi Reference Series UFR52 floorstanding loudspeaker employs a 3-way design with an improved in-house developed concentric driver.A 3-way speaker offers many advantages in the design of a full-range system. Also a older speaker with well implemented metal dome tweeters can be a joy. If in HT you are primarily chasing directional cues from the top end, then the UBR/UFR will grab your attention and I would say they are just fine. In spite of this, if I were seriously considering any of these speakers I would probably put my money on the Debut 2.0 DF62, the floorstander with 6.5' drivers. Even though its a big speaker, the Debut F5 still. The Debut 2.0 speakers are much uglier than the Debut Reference speakers. Music had impressive weight, power, and authority, and yet the sound is still remarkably clear and immediate. With that I have dismissed ELAC concentric drivers and will perhaps check out a KEF implementation in the future, when I'm rich or something. Each of the DFR52 floorstanding speakers costs the same as a pair of the bookshelf speaker. When I had them, the UBR62 also had the same fault as outlined by the ASR UBR52 review, leading me to believe that perhaps all the concentric drivers in this ELAC range take issue when driven hard enough. Enough that I prefer the DBR62 by a fair margin. The smaller of two floorstanding models in ELAC’s Debut 2.0 range, the F5.2 is a true three-way design. ![]() ![]() IMHO the UBR62 3-way concentric driver is a hair shouty here and there. My question is, is the Carina series even better A set of ELAC Carina Floorstand Speaker (FS247.4) costs slightly more than twice of ELAC Debut Reference Floorstanding Speaker (DFR52). For music, no perceived loss of highs, mids or crossover issues were perceived after a short adjustment period going from ELAC concentric to non concentric 2-ways. 2) I noted that the DBR-62 scored exceptionally well ( here) and is in fact one of the best value speakers reviewed here. Click to expand. It should be noted that the DFR52 is a 3-way with 1 of 3 5.25" Aramid fiber woofers on midrange duty in a non-concentric implementation, while the DBR62 bookshelf is well implemented 2-way.
